How to Get Your Yard Ready for Spring
There is nothing like the first inkling of Spring when the trees start budding leaves, grass grows back, and gardens bloom. The end of winter signals a season to spend more time outdoors, which means we dedicate a good portion of that time getting our yards ready. To ensure a well-maintained landscape this Spring, we have put together a few tips to add to your Spring Cleaning List. This checklist will walk you through basic lawn care and yard maintenance to guarantee a beautiful backyard oasis. Prep and Remove Debris As the snow begins to melt and the ground begins to soften, it’s time to tidy up your space and remove any lingering debris left over from the winter. It’s important to rake up twigs, leaves, and debris at the start of the season for two reasons. Layers of debris will buildup, and if not removed, will block water from penetrating the grass. You also want to make sure you are clearing the space so that nothing gets stuck in the lawn mower. Lawn Mower Maintenance This brings us to our second item on the Spring Maintenance Checklist. After months in storage, it’s recommended to check your lawn mower for all necessary maintenance. This includes making sure the blade is sharp, the oil is full, and the machine is running smoothly. Begin mowing your lawn early. Letting your grass get too long may stunt the growth, which will cause the grass to have problems growing back, however cutting too frequently may lead to weeds. A good rule of thumb is to begin in the Spring and shoot for a schedule of every five to six days. This schedule may change as the season progresses. Create a Healthy Lawn Like any plant, grass needs air, sunlight, and water to grow. If the soil becomes too thick and compact, this may affect your lawn's long-term appearance. Aerating your lawn will reduce thatch, the layer of compact soil, by removing small sections of soil to allow water and air to penetrate the ground. Almost any yard will benefit from aeration, however, yards with more foot traffic, whether from humans, pets, or vehicles, are the most necessary contenders. You have the option of three different types of aeration devices: spike aerators, slicing aerators, and core aerators. Whether you are doing this on your own or hiring a professional, there are different options to choose from. Order a good mulch Laying mulch in your garden is a great way to reduce maintenance. While it won’t completely eliminate them, mulch will reduce the growth of weeds. It is recommended to choose a type of mulch made up of larger chunks because it will decompose more slowly. However, you want to keep in mind the area you are working with. For a hilly area, choose a mulch that contains a variety of sizes so avoid losing it in the rain. For sunny areas, it’s important to remember that dark mulches will absorb the sun’s rays and radiate heat on your plants. A well-manicured yard is the perfect way to increase curb appeal, whether you are selling your house or not. Clearing the yard of winter debris and getting the landscape ready for Spring is a perfect way to give your home a little upgrade.

Freshen Up Your Home Without Breaking the Bank
If you are the type of person who gets the itch to revamp and renovate your home often but are working with a budget, this article is for you! It can be tempting to want to spend big bucks creating your dream home, but there are plenty of ways to renovate a room without breaking your bank. We have come up with a few creative hacks to freshen up any room and make your home look like a million bucks. Paint The power of a fresh coat of paint is unmatched. Simply upgrading your walls with a new shade of paint can change the mood of a room. Opt for something light or pastel for a serene atmosphere, or go bold with a pop of something bright. The Zielinski Real Estate Group can attest to how paint can change a room. Painting your walls a neutral color like grey or tan will increase the chances of your home selling, as buyers are more likely to envision their furniture against a blank canvas. Add New Elements Rather than investing in an entirely new living room set, splurge on a set of new throw pillows or an area rug. Adding updated elements to a room will make it feel new without needing to change too much. Hanging a painting or family photos on a bare wall can create a new focus as well. Try printing out photos yourself and placing them in black frames. This is a cheap, yet sentimental and classy way to revamp a wall on a budget. Swap out lamp shades for a new pattern or color. Play around with height, texture, and style to create a perfect finishing touch to your new space. Freshen Up Your Sink If it isn’t in your budget to renovate your entire bathroom, you can achieve that trendy, farmhouse feel with a few easy tweaks. Bring a rustic flair to the area by hanging wooden shelves above the toilet. Incorporate light and earthy tones in a cost-effective way by purchasing new, white towels. A new set of cabinet hardware can go a long way and the possibilities are endless. Go even further and give the vanity a fresh coat of paint. This is sure to give your bathroom a fresh facelift! Let the Light In A sunny day can change your entire mood, so why not let the sun cast a new light on a room? Purchase thin and airy curtains to allow in maximum sun exposure, or lift the blinds up during the day. Painting the window trim with a fresh coat of bright, white paint is also a great way to freshen any room without spending a fortune. Update dull paint for an instant revived and clean feel. It’s important to have a space that feels like home and brings you happiness. Adding pops of color and freshening up dull spaces is a great way to boost your mood, especially when done inexpensively. You don’t need to break the bank to create a space that feels like a million bucks!

Easy Ways to Increase Curb Appeal of Your Home
First impressions are everything, which makes curb appeal a major factor when selling your home. Curb appeal is the first impression a buyer will have when looking at a home, and it is a great opportunity to get them to fall in love at first sight. We have gathered five easy DIY projects you can do to your home to increase curb appeal to leave an excellent first impression (whether you are selling your home or not!) Plant a tree We have a homework assignment for you. Next time you are driving through a neighborhood, take notice of the houses that catch your attention. Are they on a tree-lined street? Does that home have plenty of foliage? Houses with trees have a special appeal. Although trees take years to grow fully, planting a tree will add curb appeal and longevity to your home. Just make sure the tree is planted in an area that it will have enough room to grow. Grow a Garden Flowers are also a colorful and beautiful way to add life and curb appeal to your home. Perennials are an easy and relatively low maintenance option, as they grow back on their own each year. If you have a large area that you are hoping to make use of, flowering shrubs such as Hydrangea or Azalea are great options as they only need to be planted once and will continue to bloom each year. Freshen Up Paint At an average of $25 a gallon, paint can go a long way towards sprucing up the outside of your home at a reasonable price. If you are looking for an easy DIY project, apply a fresh coat of paint to dull or chipping porch railings or window trim. Feeling bold? Give your home a fresh look and choose a new color for your front door. A pop of color can go a long way to amp up curb appeal. Detail Detail Detail Paying close attention to detail will set your home apart from the others in your neighborhood. Dedicate some time to ensuring that your landscaping is trimmed and the weeds have been pulled from sidewalks and gardens. Don’t be afraid to use a pressure washer on sidewalks and driveways, as well. A pressure washer will easily give your hardscape the deep clean it deserves. If you don’t own one, they can easily be rented at your local hardware shop. While you have it, you might consider using it on your deck, siding, or fencing, too. Light It Up Now that you have put in the hard work, make sure it doesn’t go unnoticed! Light up your entryway with new fixtures by your front door or install pathways lighting along the front entryway. These finishing touches will go a long way in adding curb appeal to your home at all hours of the day. Whether you are looking to escalate the curb appeal of your home for potential buyers or for yourself, The Zielinski Real Estate Group is full of ideas to help you upgrade your home at a reasonable cost. We are always available to talk with sellers and offer advice and ideas to increase the curb appeal of your home.
