From the city of Philadelphia to the Jersey Shore, we have a checklist of the best family-friendly summer trips to check off your list.

 

Jersey Shore

 

The Jersey Shore is a popular choice for both a week-long vacations or leisurely day-trips. With beaches all along the coast, a quick and affordable day trip is achievable from almost anywhere in New Jersey. Most South Jersey beaches require the purchase of a $5 day pass, however Atlantic City and Wildwood beaches are free all year long.

 

Packing a week down the shore with fun activities is not hard to do. Between the beaches, boardwalks, restaurants, and bars, there is something for everyone in the family to partake in. Enjoy mini-golf, amusement rides, water parks, ice cream shops, and shopping at almost any beach town in South Jersey.

Cape May Zoo or Philadelphia Zoo

 

While you are down the shore, take a day and swing by the Cape May Zoo, located in Cape May Court House, New Jersey. Enjoy free, year-round parking and admission to see over 550 animals. Pack a lunch and sit at the playground’s picnic tables just outside the zoo entrance.

 

If you are interested in spending a day at the zoo but are closer to the city than the shore, the Philadelphia Zoo is another great day-trip option! Located in the Centennial District of Philadelphia along the Schuylkill River and spanning 42 acres, the Philadelphia Zoo has been cited as one of the first Zoo’s in the country. With over 1,300 animals, many rare and endangered, the Philadelphia Zoo is one of the area’s leading conservation organizations and a must-see activity this summer.

 

 

Six Flags Great Adventure

 

Looking for some adventure and excitement? Six Flags Great Adventure, an amusement park in Jackson Township, New Jersey is open daily all summer long. With 13 roller coasters, log flumes, Ferris wheels, and children’s areas, this theme park has something for everyone! Not into amusement rides? Take the day and drive through the Wildlife Safari Drive Thru. While reservations are needed for the Safari, the amusement park and water park passes can be purchased the day of. Parking is also readily available.

 

Adventure Aquarium

 

Looking for a way to spend a rainy day? Checkout the Adventure Aquarium in Camden, New Jersey. Located right on the Delaware River Camden Waterfront, this Aquarium is open 7 days a week with free, easy parking. Explore the Shark Realm, Hippo Haven, Touch-a-Shark exhibit, and if you are feeling brave, walk across the Shark Bridge! Other attractions and exhibits include Carribean Currents, Sea Turtle Cove, Penguin Park, and the KidZone. Take a break at the Aquariums cafeteria for lunch or enjoy a packed lunch along the river.
